Master Lighting And Harness Technician

Today I went through a series of courses on basic electrical. It was a nice review and I got to brush up on some things that I was not sure about. I went through all six of the courses and got a 97%. Here is a screenshot of the completion and I will be getting a certificate in the mail.

Gear box

Couple days ago I brought a truck in for an inspection and I found that the gear box was leaking from the main shaft. So we had one in stock and I changed it out. Pretty easy job only hard part is that the box is pretty heavy and aligning the bolts up took a couple tries. Also I used the box end of the 1 5/16 wrench and put it again the top part of the frame rail so that I could take the nut off with the impact gun. I usually work alone because while going to school I have to work late by my self so I find ways to help my self out. Here are some pictures....

Final blog for internship #2

I kinda fell behind on blogs for the last couple of weeks because I been so busy with work. But in this blog I will go over some of the things I have done that I remembered to take a pictures of.

Couple weeks ago a customer came in with a trail with no marker lights no turn signals on the side of the trailer. All the back lights on the door worked though. So I did my trouble shooting I always start by checking the power cord by opening it up and making sure all the wires look good. So then I got under the trailer and examined how the wiring looked. All the lights had a hot wire and the light was grounded by the bolt going through the side rails. I have seen many times when the ground is run like that the side rail gets very dirty and coroded. Then I checked for power in the first light at the front of the trailer no power of course. Then I checked a middle light which had a butt connector in it and it was all green and coroded. So I found my problem there. Basically after further looking into the wiring I realized it was easier just to run new wire for the entire side up and down both sides. It took about 5 hours to rewire everything but it all worked good. Pictures......
No lights working.
Bad butt connector
Bad ground

Also I recently did a heater core job for the bunk heater. The o ring on the return line for the coolant was bad but we replaced the heater core as well. But the way we drained the ac Freon is what i would like to talk about. IT WAS THE VERY WRONG WAY. We didn't have the ac machine. So we drained the ac Freon into a container. Which is pretty dangerous. Picture.....
That is how i was told to drain the Freon.

I also did a oil pan gasket job couple days ago that i did not get a chance to take a picture of but the gasket had leaked. And then i changed a door hinge on a truck. Pictures....
Unhooked the wiring and everything else.
installed the new hing.
This is a way i thought of to hold the door up.

And one day i was called out to Everett because the back of brake can exploded on a trailer. I fixed this out at a truck stop. Here is a picture.

Coolant in water seperator filter

Couple days ago I brought a truck in for a service and as I went through my service process I came to the water separator. I cleaned the plastic piece on the bottom so I could see the fuel it was completely red. So I called over my boss and he told me it's a common problem in the new cummins motors and it's probably a bad head which is covered under warranty. I learned to pay attention to see through plastic

Alignment

Today in class I learned how to do alignment on a truck. This was very fun and interesting I'm glad I learned the tape and string method. I don't need the expensive tools to align a truck. I learned how to measure toe in, toe out, axle alignment, kamber, etc. Here are some pictures.....

Yoke

Today I pulled in a truck and the second axle rear end yoke was loose. So I popped off the drive and got my impact on the nut and tightened it down. To take the drive shaft off I used a little bottle jack near the u joint to relieve the caps. Then I used a big bar and hit the yoke to pop the caps off. I inspected the u joint and after I installed it I made sure grease was coming out of all four out lets. And inspected the yoke after installing the drive line and the problem was solved. Here are some pictures.

Clutch

At school I got to take out a transmission and "change" the clutch. I tool out the transmission learning tricks and ways to set my jack so it's easier to install the transmission. I also learned how to take out the pilot bearing I had never done that before Jeff showed us how to us the bearing puller. I learned a different way to install a clutch on the fly wheel the way I did it but some people like to put it together on the transmission out side then install everything at one time. Also I learned how to do measurements before installing the transmission I has never done this before. I had to go through the service information so I knew what to measure. For example the fly wheel, the bell housing, pilot earing housing, etc. Here are some pictures....
